Can I Connect the SPI Module to Other Logic Instead of the Pre-Defined PIO Pins?

Some of the FastChip IP modules automatically insert PIO pins, if appropriate.  One example is the SPI module.

By default, the SPI module inserts PIO pins for the MOSI, MISO, slave select (SS-), and SCLK signals.  The PIO pins are not assigned to specific package pins.  You can assign the location of these pins to any available PIO pin on the package using the FastChip I/O Constraints editor.

In some applications, you may wish to insert your own custom logic between the SPI control logic and the SPI interface pins.  To do so, follow these steps.

Invoke the SPI module and click the Properties tab.  De-select the Insert pads automatically option.

Click the Connections tab.  To connect to the MISO, MOSI, SS, and SCLK signals, check the option box next to each signal.

Add your own signal names for the MISO, MOSI, SS, and SCLK signals.  Click OK.  You can now connect these signals to other functions in your application.
